Environmental Health

Child Care
Southeastern District Health Department (SDHD) works in conjunction with the cities of Pocatello, Chubbuck, and the Department of Health & Welfare (ICCP, Idaho Child Care Program) to inspect and license child care facilities in our district.

Drinking Water
Nearly all of the drinking water we obtain in Southeast Idaho comes from wells. For the most part, we enjoy safe, good quality drinking water. As our communities grow, more demands are placed on our aquifer and natural resources. Without careful planning and implementation, our good drinking water quality may be compromised.

Food Safety
Environmental Health Services offers monitoring, inspections, education, intervention and enforcement activities that eliminate or reduce the exposure and risk of communicable and chronic disease and environmental threats.

Onsite Disposal (Septic Systems)
SDHD provides oversight for septic systems using the Rules for Individual and Subsurface Sewage Disposal Systems. SDHD is responsible for issuing septic permits and conducting inceptions. SDHD responds to and investigates sewer complaints and proceeds with enforcement actions when necessary.

Methamphetamine
Methamphetamine, also known as "meth," "crank," or "speed," is a potent central nervous system stimulant that is harmful to the human body and can be addictive. Possession, manufacture, or distribution is illegal in the United States and many other countries.

Solid Waste Disposal
All landfills are inspected by the Southeastern District Health Department at least once a year. Landfills are broken into two basic types; a) Municipal landfills and b) non-municipal landfills. Municipal landfills are landfills that accept household waste. Non-municipal landfills accept items such as yard waste, concrete, construction waste debris, trees, limbs etc. Within our 8 county district we have 22 landfills consisting of 7 municipal landfills and 15 non-municipal landfills.
